A Passionate EMail to Help Struggling Karnataka Farmers through Solar

I received this mail from a retired officer from the Indian Navy.

It was really motivating to see how he was trying to find a solution through solar, for the plight of farmers suffering from water shortage.

I am not revealing the name of village and person’s name for privacy and confidentiality. But the lack of these hardly matter. The subject he […]

Solar Zones, Solar Parks and Floating PV for India, according to MNRE

At the recently concluded Intersolar conference, MNRE officials put forth a number of ideas they are working on for the growth of the solar industry, especially grid-connected solar industry in India.

To this end, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has written to state governments instructing them to set up new ‘solar zones’ to encourage private sector […]

71 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid Power Plant in Arizona with Solar Tracking! Wow, that’s Cool!

I was quite excited to read about a rather unique combination of renewable energy technologies

“Array Technologies(ATI) has announced the commissioning and completion of the tracking system for the 71 MW Red Horse 2 combined wind and solar project, which is expected to provide power for 13,500 Arizona homes.

The plant generates energy from Vestas V110 wind […]

A 5000 MW Mega Solar Park in Chitradurga with Farmers’ Participation?

And here is another mega solar idea – this time with a farmer focussed one.

An ambitious scheme is being laid out where more than a dozen villages in the Chitradurga district with join together to create a massive solar park (over a period of time, I presume).

“The project envisaged by a private agency, Renewable Energy Development Trust(RED-T), with participation […]

California Farmers Shifting to Solar Energy Crop?

California is a well-known solar energy hub.

But we all would have thought that was because it gets lots of sunshine.

Looks like there is another reason – large parts of California does not get enough water.

Here’s an interesting report on how the continuous drought in California is making many farmers harvest solar energy on their farms instead […]

India to have 13 GW of Solar PV by End of 2016?

Some estimates I read suggest India could have a total solar PV installed capacity of over 13 GW by end of 2016.
Now, this is a much higher number than the installed capacity of 4.3 GW as of end Sep 2015 – in fact three times that number in just about 15 months!

How were these estimates […]
