How Does a Linear Performance Guarantee Works for Solar Panels?

This question is part of the Super Big Solar Panel FAQ from Solar Mango, where expert answers to over 100 important questions on solar panels are provided.

A linear performance guarantee for solar panels works as follows: The manufacturer specifies the performance of the solar panel year on year for 25 years.

Instead of guarantees that end after 10 or 20 years, a Linear Performance Guarantee represents a continually decreasing performance guarantee. This guarantees a maximum performance reduction of a fixed percentage over a period of 25 years. A minimum value is set for the output of the solar modules every year for a 25-year period.

Such a guarantee means that the guaranteed performance of the solar module is higher at every point in time than with the standard tiered guarantee (which specifies a minimum performance only for a longer time duration and does not vary from one year to another) and therefore provides enhanced output.

While the Linear Performance Guarantee was introduced only a few years back, today, it has almost become the standard for most solar panel manufacturers.
